	BOTOX™ What is BOTOX? It is a protein from the bacterium . The substance is injected into the muscle which causes the contraction of the muscle to diminish for a period of time.
	How does BOTOX work? Botox is a procedure that temporarily blocks nerve impulses. It binds like a magnet to nerve endings and prevents the release of chemical transmitters that activate muscles. Is BOTOX safe? Botox has been recognized as safe by the Academy of Neurology, the American Academy of Opthalmology, and the National Institutes of Health. What are the side effects of BOTOX? As with any injectable therapeutic substance, certain patients may experience bruising at the site of an injection. Drooping of the eyelid rarely occurs, but may result if the injection is made too close to the eyebrow. What is the longevity of the BOTOX? There are two important elements regarding longevity. First, the Botox effects should last between 3 to 6 months depending on the placement of the Botox and the attempted use of the muscle. Secondly, Botox must be injected within a four-hour period after reconstituted and placed in the belly of the muscle. In the absence of either, the procedure may need to be repeated. Are the injections painful? Yes, there is some discomfort with any injection. If requested, there are numbing agents that diminish the initial penetration of the needle. Frequently, however, it is the burning from the injected solution that causes the pain. The time needed for administration of the solution is short and ice can be used to discourage immediate discomfort. As with any cosmetic procedure, if the results are greater than the pain the decision for the procedure is an emotionally mature one. What are the costs involved with BOTOX injections? I charge $275.00 per syringe. A syringe can treat the frown line and the forehead lines, or it can treat the frown line and smile lines. According to the distributors, Botox can be used anywhere on the face without causing drooping except for the eyelids as previously mentioned.
